1-5 Nov 2006. The Berlin jazz festival features New Orleans legends Alain Toussaint and Eddie Bo with the New Birth Brass Band as well as combining jazz with film; musicians play live at screenings of silent movies Oyster Princess by Lubitsch (2 Nov) and The Bankruptcy Jazz (5 Nov), while the German premiere of Robert Mugges documentary New Orleans Music in Exile (4 Nov) details the lives of New Orleans musicians post- Hurricane Katrina. Other highlights include Australian jazz saxophonist Julien Wilson and his trio (2 & 3 Nov), the John Ellis Band from the USA (3 Nov) and the hr-Bigband featuring Billy Cobham and Jerry Goodman in a celebration of jazz-fusion pioneers, the Mahavishnu Orchestra (4 Nov). The festival takes place at venues around Berlin including the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, clubs A-Trane and Quasimodo, Konzertsaal Bundesallee der UdK and movie theatres Babylon Berlin:Mitte and Delphi-Filmpalast. Admission Festspiele concerts 28-8. Other venues concerts 20-10. All films at the Delphi 10. Festival pass 80, students, unwaged 50.
