Beyond the Brush: Abstract Ink Paintings since 1960

4 April-28 Aug. The Ashmolean presents an exhibition of abstract ink paintings by leading Chinese artists, all of whom were members of the Fifth Moon Group.

Considered a forerunner of the modern art movement in Taiwan in the 1960s, the group was known for its vibrant images created using Chinese ink, acrylic paint and collage, merging the brush strokes of ancient Chinese calligraphy with prevailing trends in modern western art.

The exhibition includes works by Liu Kuo Sung, Chen Ting Shih, Chuang Che and Fong Chung Ray.

Tues-Wed 10.00-17.00. Thurs-Sat 10.00-19.00. Sun 12.00-17.00. Mon closed.
