7-11 Nov 2006. Thomas Ostermeier of Berlins Schaubhne Theatre directs this acclaimed production of Sarah Kanes first play, Blasted. Performed in German with English surtitles, it tells the story of Cate, a young woman, and Ian, a journalist, who are thrown together in the claustrophobic setting of a hotel room with a war raging outside. The older man spends the night threatening and sexually humiliating Cate. When a soldier breaks into their room the full destructive impact of the war explodes into the lives of all three characters. Blasted (Zerbombt) runs for 2 hours without an interval. The performance contains explicit material which some may find disturbing. Not suitable for under-16s. Admission 35/28/21/16/10. Performances at 19.45. Photo: Arno Declair.
