26 September - 14 January 2013. Celebrating bohemia across four centuries and 15 themes, this exhibition examines our understanding of bohemians as well as highlighting the artists who drew attention to the lifestyle.
Bohemians have long illuminated the history of art and the more colourful edges of society, with their indulgent embrace of wild abandon, frivolity and happiness, often matched with melancholy and despair.
The Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais charts bohemia in myth, song, poetry and places with the help of paintings by bohemian artists such as Georges de la Tour, Edgar Degas and Vincent Van Gogh.
