BP Portrait Award 2016

23 June-4 Sept. The prestigious open competition, the BP Portrait Award, represents the best in contemporary portrait painting, and this year's winner is Scottish artist Clara Drummond for her Girl in a Liberty Dress.

Drummond's portrait was selected from 2,557 entries from 80 countries around the world, and is shown alongside the work of 53 artists from Britain, China, Columbia, France, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Spain and the US.

Chinese artist Bo Wang came in second place with Silence, a portrait of the artist's dying grandmother, while third prize went to English artist Benjamin Sullivan for his depiction of the poet Hugo Williams.

Now in its 37th year, the exhibition is a highlight of the annual art calendar and, in addition to prestige, it offers the winning artist a £30,000 prize.
