21 Sept-25 Feb. The Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) dedicates an exhibition to the pioneering Barcelona poet Joan Brossa (1919-1998) and his interdisciplinary collaboration with artists, musicians, filmmakers, dancers, comedians and even magicians. Brossa, who came to the fore in the 1940s, developed his work in a social-political context at a time when the city's avant-garde scene was stymied by Franco’s regime.
MACBA was founded in 1959 when art critic Alexandre Cirici Pellicer called for the creation of a museum of contemporary art in Barcelona. Since 2011 it has been home to the depository of the Fundació Joan Brossa which comprises Brossa's manuscripts, documents and personal correspondence.
