23 Dec 2005-8 Jan 2006. Catalan Compaa Metros present their passionate flamenco and contemporary dance version of Bizets famous opera at the Amsterdam RAI. Directed by one of Spains most outstanding choreographers, Ramn Oller, this Carmen sets the action in an Andalusian tobacco factory, with Bizets marvellous score complemented by additional music by Martirio. Based on the novel by Mrime, Bizets Carmen tells the story of Don Joss seduction by Carmen, the fiery-tempered gypsy girl, whose fate is sealed when she finally rejects the smitten Jos. As well as directing the Compaa Metros since 1985, Oller has created over 40 choreographies for the Ballet Nacional de Espana and has worked with a number of international companies including New Yorks Ballet Hispano, Nacho Duato, Compagnie Collines Istres of Marseille and Pina Bausch in Germany.
