2-5 June 2006. Berlins mega street festival and carnival parade is celebrating its tenth edition this year. Held in the German capitals Kreuzberg district, the Karneval der Kulturen aims to promote the lifestyles and traditions of Berlins large multi-cultural community. Four stages, the Farafina, Barrio Latino, Eurasia and Bazar Oriental, host performances of music, dance and theatre from around the world. More than 350 street stalls sell food and drink as well as arts and crafts, and volunteer and minority support organizations provide information about their activities. The highlight of the carnival is the street parade on 4 June, which starts at Hermannplatz at 12.30, runs the length of Hasenhelde to Gneisenstrae and finishes at the Mckernbrke U-bahn station at 21.30. There is also a childrens carnival costume parade and open-air party on 3 June from 13.30 in Goerlitzer Park. Organizers are expecting a total of 1.5 million visitors over the four days. Admission free.
