Award-winning stage and film director Sam Mendes is behind David Greig's lively adpatation of Roald Dahl's tale in which Charlie competes with four spoiled children to win a lifetime’s supply of chocolate.
The action takes place in the magical factory of confectioner Willy Wonka, played by Douglas Hodge, on a sumptious set designed by Mark Thompson.
The blockbuster West End musical at the Theatre Royal has received positive to mixed reviews from critics, many of whom praised the acting and set but criticised the score which features only one song - the classic "Pure Imagination" - from the original soundtrack of the 1971 musical "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory".
