12 Nov-24 Dec 2005. Advent is a magical time in Vienna, with coloured lights and festive markets brightening courtyards and squares all over the city. The traditional Christmas market beneath the brightly decorated trees in Rathauspark has145 booths selling gifts of all descriptions. There is another Christmas village at the University campus and an arts and crafts market on Karslplatz until 23 Dec. Festive season markets are also set amidst the baroque splendour of the Schnbrunn Palace, a world heritage site, and the Belvedere Palace, selling traditional handicrafts, handmade Christmas decorations and tasty seasonal specialities. The MuseumsQuartier (MQ) has gone for a more contemporary Christmas market, Winter in the MQ, with a palace of ice in the main courtyard, fashion shows and a host of DJs pumping out the music from Thurs to Sun. The various markets all have their own websites.
