14 July-20 Aug 2006. Internationally acclaimed Canadian circus troupe Cirque du Soleil presents Algria at the Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) next to the Amsterdam ArenA (P2). Minstrels, beggars, clowns, kings fools, aging aristocrats and children explore the themes of happiness, power, political evolution from monarchy to democracy, old age and youth. The exceptional cast perform acrobatic feats including hand-balancing, contortion, synchronized trapeze stunts, fire-knife dances and work on the aerial high bar, accompanied by a six-piece band playing original music. The show runs for 2 hours 20 minutes with a 30-minute interval. Admission 60-28 plus 5 surcharge Fri & Sat evenings. Performances Tues-Sat 19.30, Sun 13.00 & 17.00 Matinees Weds, Fri & Sat at 15.30.
