21-24 Sept 2005. This club-based festival which involves between 18-20 venues of various sizes around the centre of Copenhagen is celebrating its 5th edition this year. Among the truly international line-up of blues acts on offer are guitar-legend and showman Guitar Shorty from Los Angeles and New Orleans gospel star Lillian Boutt. Other big names include Nine Below Zero, rhythm and blues band from the UK and Cal Batchelor, blues guitarist from Canada. There is naturally a large contingent of Danish and Scandinavian blues acts as well, including blues guitarist, singer and songwriter Peter Thorup, winner of last years festival award of Blues Musician of the Year. In conjunction with the festival, Copenhagens main library is hosting an exhibition of photos, posters and LP covers, entitled American Blues Legends, 5-24 Sept, which documents the blues invasion of Denmark in the sixties and features unique images of legendary blues musicians like Sonny Boy Williamson II, Muddy Waters, Otis Spann, Willie Dixon and John Lee Hooker. The exhibition is accompanied by solo blues performances during the festival, starting at 15.00.
