Diane Arbus

26 Oct - 13 Jan 2013. The Amsterdam Photography Museum (FOAM) exhibits 200 photographs by renowned New York photographer Diane Arbus (1923-1971). The exhibition in Amsterdam displays the artist's most iconic photographs as well as many that have never been seen before in the Netherlands.

Arbus became famous for her bold style, which often rendered exotic that which we consider familiar, and she was also celebrated for her portraits of sitters as diverse as celebrities, children, eccentrics and transvestites.

Most of her subjects and subject matter hailed from her native New York City. The show provides an extensive biographical and critical documentation of the artist's life and oeuvre.
