8-23 May 2006. The Teatro Real hosts Mozarts comic opera The Abduction from the Seraglio Die Entfhrung aus dem Serail set in the opulent palace of a Turkish Pasha. First produced in 1782, the opera is in the genre of a singspiel, with spoken dialogue and set musical numbers. Konstanze, a beautiful young Spanish girl, her English maid Blonde and Blondes young man, Pedrillo, are captured by pirates and sold as slaves to Pasha Selim. Belmonte, Konstanzes fianc, then arrives in Turkey in search of his beloved, only to find that she has become the object of Selims amorous advances. The libretto is by Christophe Friedrich Bretzner with adaptations by Gottlieb Stephanie. This German, Swiss and French co-production was originally created for the Aix-en-Provence Festival dArt Lyrique in 2003. Konstanze is played by Desire Rancantore and Pasha Selim by Shahrokh Moshkin-Ghalan, with Eric Cutler in the part of Belmonte. Directed by Jrme Deschamps and Macha Makeeff, with musical direction by Christoph Knig. Admission 136-6. Performances 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19 and 23 May at 20.00, 21 May at 18.00.
