17 July-3 Oct 2006. One of Viennas oldest churches, St Ruprechts in the Roman Vindobona area of the Austrian capital, hosts concerts of early music every weekend over summer. Musicians from all over Europe perform using historical instruments including the theorbo, lute, baroque guitar, recorder, harpsichord and viola da gamba. Highlights include the Eole Trio (21 & 22 Aug) performing music by Devienne, Pleyel, Gebauer and the Pygmalion Ensemble (18 & 19 Sept) with music by JS Bach and Telemann. An all-vocal concert of works by Palestrina, Compre and Ockeghem is presented by the Arcantus Ensemble featuring soprano Susanne Lebloch (11 & 12 Sept) and the final concerts have solo vocalists accompanied by early music ensembles: Barbarissima! (25 & 26 Sept) features soprano Maria Erlacher with the Bassar Ensemble, and alto Barbara Wolfmayr sings with the Col Canto Ensemble in Hndel in Hamburg (2 & 3 Oct).
