Ed Ruscha: The Ancients Stole All Our Great Ideas
25 September - 2 December. This exhibition, curated by American pop artist Ed Ruscha, is the first in a series in which the Kunsthistorisches Museum invites internationally-celebrated artists to create exhibitions using its collections.
Ruscha, whose artistic practice sees him alternate between painting, printmaking, photography and graphic design, paid his first visit to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in 1961.
Half a century later the museum invited him back to explore its collections and meet its curators. The finished result is this exhibition for which each object was selected personally by Rushca.
The works on display are placed out of context, and encourage visitors to view them in a new light as well as allowing a glimpse into the way Ruscha thinks.
