El Ocaso del Imperio

Polish writer and photo journalist Ryszard Kapuściński travelled around the former Soviet Union from 1989 to 1991, documenting its people and landscapes.

Kapuściński died in 2007 and his Russian photographs were only exhibited for the first time three years later in Warsaw, before travelling around his native Poland.

The original exhibition, whose English title is The decline of the empire, comprised 50 images selected by one of Poland's leading graphic editors, Izabela Wojciechowska.

The Barcelona show includes 36 of these 50 photograph, depicting the people and places Kapuściński encountered on his travels during the final years of the Soviet Union.
