El Siglo de Oro. The Age of Velázquez

1 July-30 Oct. This major exhibition showcases Spanish painting and sculpture from the 17th century, a golden era or siglo de oro in European cultural history.

The Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin unites its prestigious collection of Spanish paintings with numerous international loans, and highlights 17th-century Spain's artistic centres of Toledo, Valencia, Seville and Madrid.

The exhibition comprises more than 130 masterpieces by Velázquez, El Greco, Francisco de Zurbarán and Bartolomé E. Murillo, as well as lesser-known artists such as Alonso Cano and Gregorio Fernández.
