Until 4 Dec 2005. This two-hour musical drama based on the true story of Elisabeth dHapsburg, the beautiful child bride of Emperor Franz Josef I, is the most successful German-language musical of all time, and has already been seen by nearly four million people. After her fairytale wedding, Sissis youthful high spirits were soon crushed by the oppressively rigid protocol at the Viennese court and by her strict mother-in-law. Sissi sought refuge in travel and spent a lot of time alone away from her husband and her son in various parts of Europe. Her sons suicide brought grief and a longing for her own death, which came unexpectedly on the shores of Lake Geneva, where she was assassinated by an Italian anarchist in 1898. The poetry written by the melancholy Empress was the inspiration for this hit theatre show with music composed by Grammy award-winner Sylvester Levay. Maya Hakvoort stars as the Empress Elisabeth. Admission weekdays 23-72, weekends 25-95. Last-minute standing room 2.50. 19.30, Sun 18.00, every first Sat of the month 15.00, closed Wed.
