9-30 Dec 2006. Historic Holmens Kirke opposite the Christiansborg Castle is just one of the many churches across the Danish capital hosting musical events over the festive season. On 9 Dec J.S. Bachs Christmas Oratory is performed by the resund Baroque Orchestra and soloists, with conductor Frank Sylvan (16.00), while on 11 & 12 Dec the Musica Chamber Choir and the resund Baroque Ensemble present A Baroque Messiah (19.30). The annual Christmas concert featuring mezzosoprano Gitte Marie Sjberg accompanied by Olga Plonskyt on violin and Jacob Lorentzen playing the famous Holmens Kirke organ is on 13 Dec (doors open 19.00 admission free). This is followed on 14 & 15 Dec by popular singers Kurt Ravn and Signe Rasmussen in concert (20.00). Other highlights include Christmas Jazz with the Sokkelund Choir acompanied by Ole Kock Hansen (piano) and Mads Vinding (bass) at the Garnisonskirken on Sankt Ann Plads (16 Dec, 15.00), Handels Messiah at Holmens Kirke (18 & 19 Dec, 19.30) and a Venetian New Years concert featuring music by Monteverdi, Gabrielli and Schultz at the Garnisonskirke (30 Dec, 15.00).
