15 Sept-9 Oct 2005. The Nacional de Teatro Clsico opens its 2005/2006 season with a production of Lope de Vegas 'Fuente Ovejuna' by Ramn Sim and Juan Mayorga. Attracting major critical acclaim on its first run in Catalonia, Director Ramn Sims interpretation of 'Fuente Ovejuna' remains faithful to the original. He chose not to modernise the text, which he says is a timeless piece of work with immense characters, powerful plot, and beautiful diction. No-one should be surprised that this is one of our best known plays around the world", says Mayorga. He praises de Vegas depiction of "humiliated but rebellious people, lords who want to make the most of their future, and kings learning to be absolute. This triangle is the past to our present."
