15 Apr-13 Aug 2008. On the bicentenary of the start of the Spanish War of Independence and of the events in Madrid in May 1808, the Museo del Prado dedicates this exhibition to Francisco Goya (1746-1828), displaying over 200 works by the artist. This event presents Goya in a wide context, but focuses on the two great canvases portraying 2-3 May 1808, which were cleaned and restored for the occasion. The exhibition includes 65 paintings loaned from other institutions and private collections. Both the number and the quality of the works on show make this the most important international exhibition on Goya since the last one organized by the Prado in 1996.
