1 Dec 2008-4 Jan 2009. Catherine Wheels Theatre Company reinvents the classic Hansel and Gretel fable in this promenade performance at the Barbican Theatre. The two children have been abandoned in the forest by their cold-hearted stepmother and poverty-stricken woodcutter father, as there are too many mouths to feed and there is a famine on the way. Finding a candy-covered cottage in the depths of the woods, the hungry children cannot resist taking a nibble. However the cottage is home to a wicked witch who has some nasty surprises in store for the luckless pair. This production is based on the National Theatre of Scotland
