12 August-4 December 2005 . This unusual and comprehensive exhibition of the famous French artists work covers the years 1941 to 1954 the period that Matisse himself referred to as his second life- after the major operation he underwent in 1941, he felt he had been given a new lease of life. The exhibition, which the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art has organized in collaboration with the Muse du Luxembourg in Paris, takes as a starting point Matisses correspondence with the French satirical draughtsman and writer, Andr Rouveyre. Sketches, drawings and decorated envelopes were included in the over 1,200 letters exchanged by the two friends over that 15-year period and Matisse used the correspondence to discuss his artistic ideas and current projects in detail. The unique approach of this exhibition involves presenting the works themselves in tandem with the ideas and considerations that lie behind them.

Admission: DKK 76 (10.35) with reductions for pensioners and students. Daily 10.00 17.00 Weds 10.00 22.00. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is 35 km north of Copenhagen, set in a beautiful old park with views across the sound to Sweden.
