2-25 June 2006. The Netherlands largest performing arts festival presents 90 shows as well as art exhibitions, film and fringe activities around Amsterdam. Highlights include Peter Greenaways installation/performance entitled Nightwatching, which brings Rembrandts famous painting to life at the Rijksmuseum. Several operas are on offer including Shostakovichs Lady Macbeth van Mtsensk presented by the De Nederlandse Opera to mark the 100th anniversary of the composers birth. International shows include the six-and-a-half hour Gatz based on The Great Gatsby presented by the Elevator Repair Service company from New York. Kabuki theatre makes its debut in the Netherlands starring Japans foremost exponent of the genre, Ebizo XI. A programme of films from the FilmFestivalRotterdam runs in tandem with the festival. The festival box offices are located at 2 of the 12 festival venues: the Musiekgebouw aant IJ at 1 Piet Heinkade and the Stadsschouwburg at 26 Leidseplein. Festival passes 42-160.
