This thought-provoking exhibition is centred around how geographical location informs museum collections and exhibition policies, both historically and today.
The Stedelijk asks fundamental questions relating to the scope and emphasis given to collecting and displaying international contemporary art in the post-war art world, and asks why artistic developments emerging in large parts of the world have been ignored.
The exhibition was prompted by new acquisitions of work by African artists, including Meschac Gaba, Abdoulaye Konaté, Billie Zangewa and Dorothy Amenuke, the Ghanaian artist whose recently-installed work at the Stedelijk gave the exhibition its title.
