17 Oct 2006-8 Jan 2007. This exhibition at Madrids Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofa covers six decades of the work of celebrated British artist Howard Hodgkin (London 1932). Tracing the developments in Hodgkins style, and the media he uses, the exhibition moves chronologically from his early portraits and interiors of the 1950s and 1960s to his use of painted frames and wooden panels rather than traditional canvases in the 1970s, through to his more expressive paintings since the 1980s. Highlights of his recent works on show include Undertones of War (2001-3), Come into the Garden, Maud (2000-3), inspired by the poet Tennyson, and A Rainbow (2004). The exhibition has been organized jointly by the Dublin IMMA and the Tate Britain in collaboration with the Reina Sofa Museum. Admission 6, students 3, under-18s, over-65s and unemployed free. Free to general public on Sat 14.30-21.00 and Sun 10.00-14.30. Mon-Sat 10.00-21.00 Sun 10.00-14.30. Closed 24, 25, 31 Dec & 1, 6 Jan.
