Hundertwasser

The paintings of Austrian artist, architect, designer, environmentalist, poet and philosopher Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) are the subject of an exhibition of paintings, architectural models, graphic art and design at ARKEN.

Hundertwasser created vivid paintings in harmony with nature, using organic forms and bright colours. His utopian vision was also evident in his architecture which was characterised by green trees growing through buildings and brightly coloured houses merged with the landscape.

Born in Vienna, the artist spent the last few decades of his life living at the Bay of Islands in north-east New Zealand.
