11 March-19 June. This exhibition of masterpieces from the Phillips Collection in Washington features 62 paintings from the important US museum of modern and contemporary art. The show is dedicated to European and American painting from the 19th century until world war two, and the paintings are displayed in chronological order.

There are works by 19th-century masters such as Goya and Delacroix, Impressionists Cézanne and Degas, 20th-century modernists such as Matisse and Picasso, and American post-war artists Guston and Rothko. See in-depth review of exhibition which travelled from Rome.
