The 38th edition of the Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival 2006 opens with a free concert in Barcelona's Plaa de la Catedral featuring the Felix Rossy Quintet and the Llibert Fortuny XXL Big Band. Venues across the Catalan capital, including L'Auditori, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Palau de la Musica, Luz de Gas, Bikini and the Zac Jazz Club, host local and international names including English jazz/pop pianist Jamie Cullum(6 Nov), American jazz pianist Brad Mehldau (11 Nov), the legendary Keith Jarrett with Gary Peacock and Jack Dejohnette (15 Nov) and acclaimed American soprano Barbara Hendricks singing Billie Holiday (18 Nov). Veteran jazz star Herbie Hancock performs at the Palau (23 Nov) and the festival closes with the Maria Schneider Orchestra performing the new work 'The Mozart Project' commissioned by Peter Sellars for his New Crowned Hope festival, (5 Dec). Admission 42-15. Keith Jarrett concert 95-30.
