Italia: I sei sensi

This exhibition dedicated to the Italian avant-garde movement takes its name from a series created in the 1970s by artist Alighiero Boetti, who sought to add "thought" to the five established senses of sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing.

The exhibition begins with Futurism and continues chronologically with Informalism, conceptual art and the Italian Transavantgarde. Alongside works by leading figures such as Boetti and Balla, the exhibition includes pieces by Battaglia, Consagra, Fontana, Griffa, Longobardi, Novelli, Perilli, Spagnulo and Staccioli.

The works in the Suñol collection incorporate painting, sculpture and photography, the bulk of which was acquired in the 1960s-1970s by veteran art collector Josep Suñol, whose name appears in dedications on several of the works in this exhibition.
