17 - 23 April 2009. Supported by Dublin's Italian Cultural Institute, the 16th Italian Film Festival takes place in the IFI in Temple Bar. The programme features the very best of contemporary Italian cinema and includes a selection of short films and documentaries. Following the international success of Matteo Garrone's "Gomorrah" and Paolo Sorrentino's "Il Divo" in last year's Cannes Film Festival, the once flagging Italian film industry has recently received a welcome boost. Festival highlights include "Il Giorno Perfetto" (The Perfect Day) and an insightful documentary into the life of the famous Italian fashion designer Valentino. The cinematic contribution made by actress Alida Valli, a film star from the '40's and '50's, is warmly acknowledged by the festival who are showcasing a tribute in her honour.
