20-23 Oct 2006. The Zentrum Schneweide hosts the second edition of Berlins annual Japan Festival, celebrating Japanese art, culture and way of life from traditional to modern times. Decorative arts including origami flower arrangement, Manga comic strips and calligraphy are on show, as well as kimono art and fashion. Taiko drumming workshops are held daily, run by Taiko Berlin, and martial arts displays of the Japanese sword arts, kendo and iaido, are on offer on 21-23 Oct. Aikido workshops, teaching the modern Japanese budo, are open to children (16.00 on 21 Oct) and adults (17.30 on 21 Oct). Other highlights include shiatsu massage demonstrations, sake workshops and a performance by the Japanese womens choir, the Nagomi Ensemble (15.00 on 20 Oct). Japanese gastronomy is also on offer with everything from sushi to sukiyaki. Admission free. 20, 21 & 23 Oct 10.00-20.00, 22 Oct 12.00-17.00.
