29 June-16 July 2006. The 16th edition of the Vienna Jazz Festival begins at 17.00 on 29 June with a free concert at Hof im Museumsquartier featuring Latin, pop and jazz from US musician Raul Midon and acoustic soul from German band, Tok Tok Tok. Festival headliners include the Neville Brothers at Halle E in the Museumsquartier on 7 July, while the Weiner Staatsoper hosts Sergio Mendes (3 July), Herbie Hancock and his Quintet (4 July), Randy Newman (5 July) and Percy Sledge (6 July). Chick Corea gives a special concert, In the Spirit of Mozart, at the Staatsoper on 1 July; the event features the world premiere of a new work commissioned for the Jazz Festival, Piano concerto No. 2, as well as his rendition of Mozarts Piano Concerto No. 24. Other venues hosting the festival events are the BA-CA Kunstforum, Porgy & Bess, the Rathaus/Arkadenhof, Jazzland, the Fernwrme Foyer and Reigen. Admission 70-10.
