Juno and the Paycock

16 Feb-16 April. The Gate Theatre stages a production of Seán O'Casey's classic play set in the working-class tenements of Dublin in the early 1920s, during the Irish civil war era.

Following its premiere at the Abbey in 1924, Juno and the Paycock went on to become one of Ireland's most-performed and best-loved plays, and over the decades its characters and references have weaved their way into everyday Irish colloquial discourse, particularly in Dublin.

The play, a mix of comedy and tragedy, is centred around workshy friends Joxer Daly and Jack Boyle, whose wife Juno is a tower of strength until a series of events sees her life falling apart around her.

Mark O'Rowe directs a talented cast which includes Declan Conlon, Peter Coonan, Derbhle Crotty, Emmet Kirwan and Caoimhe O’Malley. The Irish Independent describes it as an "excellent production....a must-see."

Mon-Sat 19.30. Sat matinees 14.30 on selected dates.
