18 Oct-26 Feb. The Reina Sofia dedicates an exhibition to the pioneering American cartoonist George Herriman, whose work developed in the new comic strip medium of US newspapers around the turn of the 20th century.
Herriman’s cartoons influenced artists such as Willem de Kooning and Öyvind Fahlström as well as intellectuals and writers including E. E. Cummings, T. S. Eliot and Jack Kerouac.
The exhibition comprises some 160 works, from original drawings to the newspapers in which they were published, and features Herriman's most popular creation, the Krazy Kat comic strip which ran from 1913 until his death in 1944.
