1-28 April 2006. The Barbican, the Royal Festival Hall and Sadlers Wells are among the London venues hosting the sixth edition of this eclectic festival of Latin American music. One of the great contemporary singers of Portuguese fado, Misia, opens the festival with Marietta Veulens on 1 April at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Other international performers include Susana Baca with her Afro-Peruvian repertoire (2 April), Lila Downs from Mexico singing cancion ranchera ballads (4 April), hip-hop funk and flamenco band from Barcelona, Ojos de Brujo (10 April), and Anga Diaz with his Echu Mingun project playing Cuban rhythms and jazz (15 April). The festival highlight is a concert featuring original members of the Buena Vista Social Club accompanied by an 11-piece band from Havana (24 and 25 April). Admission: 26-12.
