11 March-13 May 2006. The Royal Danish Opera presents Verdis classic, La Traviata, the story of the tragic love affair between wealthy upper-class Alfredo and Violetta Valry, the mortally-ill courtesan. Based on the Alexander Dumas novel, La Dame aux Camlias, La Traviata is an elegy to solitude, rebellion, death and the illusory nature of happiness. This new production, on the Main Stage of the new Opera House, has Inger Dam-Jensen and Anne Margarethe Dahl sharing the part of Violetta, while Alfredo is played by Niels Jrgen Riis and Bruce Sledge. Conducted by Giancarlo Andreatta and directed by David Radok, La Traviata will be performed in Italian with Danish super-titles. Duration 2 hours 40 minutes.
