7 March-30 April 2006. Modern Art Oxford presents the work of seven very different artists in an international group show that includes painting, photography, video and mixed-media artworks. Entitled Local Stories, the exhibition focuses on the importance of the local and the everyday with participating artists from Mexico City, Mumbai, Oxford, Glasgow, the Czech Republic and London. The video/shadow play installation by Nalini Malani from Mumbai, Gamepieces, occupies the whole of the Upper Gallery, while the Lower Gallery houses Asylum Seekers, a series of photographs by Oxford artist Rory Carnegie, the Port Glasgow Book Project by Mark Neville and a new installation of paintings by Newcastle artist Laura Lancaster. The works of Czech artist Katerina Seda are also on show in the Lower Gallery along with the film Happiness by Mexican filmmaker Daniel Guzman. Events organized in tandem with the exhibition include Artists in Conversation, with Katerina Seda on 18 April at 18.30, admission 4-3, and Nalini Malani on 19 April at 18.30, admission 3-2. Guided tours of the exhibition on 8, 15 & 22 April. Exhibition admission free. Tues-Sat 10.00-18.00, Sun 12.00-17.00.
