7-12 Oct 2006. Lyric Opera Productions present Giacomo Puccinis great tragic opera Madama Butterfly at Dublins National Concert Hall for three performances only. Based on a short story by John Luther Long, the tale of geisha Cio-Cio Sans love for the American officer Pinkerton, who seduces and then betrays her, is set in Japan at the turn of the last century. This production is directed and designed by Vivian Coates, with Fergus Sheil conducting. Madama Butterfly features an international cast, including Korean soprano Jee Hyun Lim in the role of Cio-Cio San. Other cast members include Marcello Bedoni from Italy, Simon Thorpe from Australia and John Molloy, Doreen Curran, Sandra Oman and Brendan Collins from Ireland. Admission 42, 38, 36, 32, 20.
