Neapolitan and Spanish drawings from the Baroque
19 February - 15 May. Highlighting the variety and expertise of Spanish and Neapolitan draughtsmanship, this exhibition comprises 29 drawings from the Christ Church collection, with the earliest works on show dating to the 17th century.
Due to their rarity, there is little historical documentation on Spanish and Neapolitan drawings from that time and it is only in recent years that international studies and exhibitions have begun to focus on the subject.
During the 16th and 17th centuries Naples and Spain had close political, religious and cultural links which helped to forge their respective artistic styles. Of particular note is Jusepe da Ribera
