6-10 July 2006. The concert festival in the neo-classical Gendarmenmarkt is now a summer fixture in Berlin. The festival opens with a concert of French classical music and song performed by soloists including Ute Lemper, Juliette Grco & Ensemble and Klaus Hoffmann. La Dolce Vita follows on 7 July with the Berlin symphony Orchestra playing Italian classics from Nessun Dorma to Santa Lucia, featuring soloists Vincenzo La Scola (tenor) and Angelo Branduardi. The Orchestra of the Berliner Friedrichstadtpalastes directed by Detlef Klemm performs Berlin classics on 8 July, followed by Latin classics with the acclaimed Cuban musicians of the Buena Vista Social Club for two concerts on 9 July. The festival closes with the East Rock Symphony, a concert of rock ballads performed by the Neues Symphonie Orchester Berlin conducted by Bernd Wefelmeyer. Admission 126.50-30.50. Concerts start 20.30 on 6 July, 20.00 on 7, 8 & 10 July, 16.00 & 18.30 on 9 July.
