9 December - 20 January. ARCAM Amsterdam Centre for Architecture stages an exhibition entitled Over the Red Light District that outlines urban redevelopment proposals for the city's red light quarter.
The non-conventional designs utilise the upper floors of brothels, many of them unoccupied, in an attempt to conserve and enhance the district.
The exhibition asks if the area could degenerate architecturally, thanks to the brothels, or whether it could survive as a mixed-use area with a variety of businesses coexisting.
Central to the exhibition is a large-scale video-mapping model of the district, displaying diverse schemes.
ARCAM was established in 1986 to broaden architecture's appeal and to focus on topical architectural issues and developments in Amsterdam.
