7 - 21 May 2009. Elizabeth Cope is well known for her dynamic and spontaneous approach to painting. As an artist she is uncompromising and brave and can be relied upon for being a breath of fresh air in an often 'safe' art-market. Her work is both arresting and alluring; behind her bright colours lies a whiff of sulphur, an ever-present hint of mischief. Her disapproval of 'working within the frame' gives her canvasses a bold and full-bodied freedom, evoking the spirit of Matisse. She has exhibited widely, both in Ireland and abroad, and her paintings are held in a number of important public and private collections.
