2 March-30 June 2006. The city of Paris provides the cinematic backdrop to this exhibition of film hosted by the city council in the newly renovated and enlarged Salle St. Jean in the Htel de Ville. The exhibition is divided chronologically into sections covering the birth of cinema and the Lumire brothers in Paris annes zero; Paris des avant-gardes, the great years of silent cinema featuring footage from L Inhumaine by Marcel L Herbier; Paris Studio, focusing on the period 1930-1950, the age of film noir and music hall comedy; Paris-Hollywood, featuring the American filmmakers who have used Paris as their natural set; Paris au Naturel, featuring the films of the Nouvelle Vague (New Wave) cinema; and Paris la carte, dedicated to contemporary cinema with images from films such as Last Tango in Paris, Amlie and Gnalogies d'un Crime by Raoul Ruiz. Paris on the big screen shows footage from classic films at the Htel de Ville in tandem with the exhibition. Admission free. Mon-Sat 10.00-19.00.
