Per Kirkeby and the forbidden paintings of Kurt Schwitters
10 Feb - 20 May. Bozar presents an exhibition that examines the influence that German painter Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) had on the work of contemporary Danish artist Per Kirkeby (born 1938).
A nature lover and trained geologist, in 1961 the young Danish painter became enchanted with the landscapes painted by Schwitters when he was in exile in Norway in the 1930s.
Although Schwitters is known predominantly for his Dadaist collages, Kirkeby holds the German artist's landscapes in high regard, and refers to them as Schwitters' "forbidden paintings".
For 40 years Kirkeby has depicted the great outdoors in a variety of techniques including paint, sculpture in brick and bronze, drawing, monotype and film.
