21 June-4 Sept 2006. The Bauhaus Museum of Design presents Photographic Experiments in Colour, 1934-1946, an exhibition dedicated to the work of Hungarian-born artist/photographer Lszl Moholy-Nagy (1895-1946). Moholy-Nagys avant-garde photographic experimentation with photograms and photo-montage contributed significantly to the early public image of the Bauhaus movement and the concept of Modernism. The exhibition comprises 55 colour photographs including abstract compositions, portraits, advertisements, cityscapes and studies from the School of Design in Chicago, presented in large format light frames. A six-minute film, Dynamic of the Big City, produced in 2005/6 by students at the Berlin University of the Arts on the basis of sketches in the photographers 1925 Bauhaus book Painting Photography Film, is screened at the exhibition.
