4 Nov 2005-6 Feb 2006. The travelling exhibition of portrait photographs by Dutch photographer Rineke Dijkstra has arrived at the Stedelijk Museum CS, after showing in Paris, Winterthur and Barcelona. Bringing together around 70 of Dijkstras most important works from the period 1992-2003, the exhibition includes representative pieces from all of her portrait photo series. The beach portrait series, capturing the essence of adolescent unease and insecurity in austere shots of young people standing on a shoreline, brought Dijkstra international recognition. In this exhibition the theme of adolescence is explored further in two video works focussing on youthful dancers at a disco, The Buzzclub/Mystery World and Annemiek, which accompany the photographs. Other series include the bullfighters, new mothers, Almerisa, the young Bosnian refugee growing up, and male and female Israeli soldiers. Some independent portraits and work from an unfinished series complete the exhibition. Admission 9, concessions 4.50. Daily 10.00-18.00, 1 Jan closed.
