Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
12 June-20 Aug 2006. This is the 237th edition of the largest and most popular open art exhibition in the UK, which has been held every year without exception since 1769. The first summer exhibition, at a warehouse in Pall Mall, featured 136 works by 57 artists. Today curators select around 1,000 works from up to 9,000 entries each year. Prize money of 70,000 is awarded in various categories for distinguished work in painting, print making, drawing, sculpture and architectural design. This years theme is From Life. Admission 8, over-60s & disabled 7, unemployed 3, under-7s free. Daily 10.00-18.00, Fri 10.00-22.00.
