Royal Hibernian Academy exhibition.
30 May-8 July 2006. The Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) presents the 176th edition of its annual exhibition, which includes 550 new works by RHA academicians, works by 30 invited artists and a selection from the 2,500 works submitted by emerging and established artists from all over Ireland. Invited artists this year include San Hillen, Chung Eun Mo, John Coll, Brian King, Sahoko Blake, Patrick OReilly, Caroline Donohue and Cathy Carman. The richness of the exhibition lies in its variety: painting, sculpture, photography, portraiture, printmaking and drawing as well as architectural models are all displayed side by side. This year, three new prizes have been introduced for photography, sculpture and portraiture with a total of 20,000 in prize-money. There is also a new Naughton Award of a two-week residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, which will go to an artist aged under 35 exhibiting in any media. A full colour catalogue accompanies the exhibition with essays by James Hanley RHA, Stephen McKenna PRHA, James English RHA and Martin Gale RHA. Admission free. Tues-Sat 11.00-17.00, Thurs 11.00-20.00, Sun 14.00-17.00.
